THE RENAISSANCE KIDS

Hey there, welcome to The Renaissance Kids!

Renaissance [Wo]man (n): an individual with many talents or areas of knowledge.

The Renaissance Kids is a place you can indulge yourself in a love of fashion, art and lifestyle (and the occasional behind-the-scenes video of us making fools of ourselves), as well as providing opinions and analyses on issues concerning the youth.

The last time I wrote this blurb about myself for our blog, I was a lowly first-year, trying to figure out my place in J-School and in university—how much has changed in nearly three years! I’m now going into my fourth year of journalism at Ryerson University, and couldn’t be more excited and proud of all I’ve done over these last few years.

Unlike my age, many of my interests have remained the same. I’m still a major history nerd, lover of sparkly nail polish, self-proclaimed gangsta rap aficionado, Sylvia Plath fanatic, and Ella & Louis fangirl.

This blog—the RK as it’s lovingly referred to—has allowed me to indulge my love for fashion, art, photography and film, alongside the raddest girl I know. Sam has become my yas kween and my best friend over these last few years, and I knew from the moment I saw her in her sweater-collar-shirt-combo that first day in reporting class that we were destined for great things.

And so, I hope you enjoy perusing our blog as much as we love creating content for it.

Love ya, bitch!

Hi gang!

My name is Sam, co-blogger at the Renaissance Kids. Whether you just stumbled on this blog or have been following us from the advent, welcome! Truly, your presence is a present.

Alex and I started this blog in January 2014, after spending our first semester of university concocting our “plan of action,” which was really us spending hours discussing the writers and publications that we each held in high esteem (Read: gushing over Rookie Yearbook). We made the RK with the intention of providing ourselves with a soapbox/creative outlet.

Between then and now, I’ve done some (much needed) growing and some living. Now, I’m in my fourth year of journalism at Ryerson University.

The blog has helped me find my creative voice. It’s a dream to collaborate with someone, who doesn’t mind me pointing a camera at her every once in a while, not to mention the random string of texts I send her when I have a photo shoot idea.

All in all, we just hope to continue making things with creative people and mould this blog into a cozy space for our projects to live and ideas to grow.

Big thank you to everyone who has helped with a post so far, given us constructive criticism or continues to read our content.
